About the CENA Research Institute

CENA is the research arm of the Centre de l’Écriture Négro-Africaine « Mandombe ». It develops scientific work rooted in African knowledge systems and open to global scrutiny.

Origins and history

Founded in the early 2000s, CENA was created to explore Mandombe script and African symbolic systems as serious scientific tools. Over time, the Institute expanded into health, cognition and governance, while maintaining a strong Kongo and African epistemological base.

Institutional structure

CENA operates as an accredited research centre linked to Université Simon Kimbangu and recognised by the Ministry of Scientific Research of the DRC. It works with universities, hospitals and regulatory bodies in Africa and the diaspora.
